About the Artist...
Biography
Julie Matthews maintains a ceramic art studio in Anchorage, Alaska concentrating on architectural sculpture and handmade tiles. Since 1983, Julie has executed over twenty major installations including BP Exploration, the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak, a concrete and tile memorial project at Kincaid Park, and several public 1% for Art projects.
Through the artist-in schools programs, Julie enjoys working with rural and urban children throughout Alaska on unique art projects. Sharing her enthusiasm for tile making with students, most programs conclude with a colorful tile mural for their school.
